The FSFE (Free Software Foundation Europe [5]) launched on september 13, 2017, it's "Public Money ? Public Code !" campaign, with the support of 30 organisations including April. A campaign fully consistent with April's main objective : priority to Free Software and open formats in public administrations.
As part of this campaign, the 31 organisations are publishing an open letter [6]in which they call for lawmakers to advance legislation requiring publicly financed software developed for the public sector be made available under a Free Software licence. April encourages everyone to sign this open letter [7].
In France, since the Digital Republic Act came into effect in october 2016, source codes "made or procured" by public administration are considered administrative documents and as such fall within the scope of the French Freedom of Information Act. In other words, any citizen has the right to request access to public data, and therefore to public code. Read more about this Act and April actions [8]
